TRAINING TIPS

before you start . . .

1.  Make sure you are wearing flat, comfortable shoes so you can easily move around with your puppy.

2.  Ensure your puppy has a flat collar and lead.  Harness’s and flexi leads are great for your dogs when out and about, but you need a little bit more control when training

3.  TREATS – are used to motivate and reward and should be ‘high value’ rewards i.e. something special your puppy wouldn’t normally get and that can be swallowed easily and quickly e.g. sausage, cheese, chicken or ham.

4.  Access to treats – this may sound daft but you need to be able to get to your treats quickly and regularly so make sure they are in an easy access pocket, bum bag or treat bag that clips on your belt.

5.  Toys can also be used to reward your puppy and to teach them to play and interact with you.  Use a ragger toy or ball on a rope.
